The same pattern offers  different solutions.

Red linen dress under a red heavyweigth-wool surcoat, decorated with goldribbons.

The repaired gown from Herjolfsnes with find nr. 38.

The pattern with all the pieces.

Herjolfsnes no 38, an archeology discovery from Greenland.

The yellow wool is 5 meter, wool 80% and 20% other material in easteryellow. I have dyed it in a sand colour and it got almost a colour like the fresh birtcleaves gives in springtime. I dyed the cloth as a hole piece in the washingmachine at 60 Celsius.

The cotehardie is not quite like the Herjolfnes dress, the buttoning in the front and the sleeves, but it is all handsewn with strong linentread waxed with beewax and backstiches. The back of every seam are sewn backwards to one site.

A lot of other interesting finds.

I made 40 buttons in pewter for this dress (12- per arm), for a tighter cotehardie and sleeves. The original had a looser fit.
